What are the requirements for a Responsible Master Plumber license?

Master licensure typically requires a minimum of six years of plumbing experience including; documented work history and a series of comprehensive written and hands on exams based upon the design and installation of plumbing systems. 

A Master Plumber must file a certificate of insurance with the Plumbing Board in order to obtain a Responsible Master Plumber license. Only an RMP can own or operate a bona fide plumbing company. 

How do I verify a plumber's credentials online?

The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners provides a public database where you can search by license number or name. We recommend checking the TSBPE website for the most current and verified records.

What consumer rights do I have if a plumber fails to comply with code?

You have the right to a safe and compliant home. If a job is not completed to code, you can file a complaint with your local building department or the TSBPE. If you file a formal complaint with the Plumbing Board, they will investigate.
