Since the 1890's laws have been passed establishing standards and regulations for the Plumbing Industry.
It is important that during both the construction and maintenance of plumbing systems, that the individuals engaged in the work be qualified by training and experience.
It is also important that contractors and service companies comply with the license laws for the financial protection of the homeowner.
Even a company that operates legally under a master plumber, must send out an individual with the proper license and or endorsement to do the work.

Board Rules
The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners
adopts rules to interpret, implement and enforce the State Plumbing License Laws.
The Board holds meetings to discuss the direction of the agency. Board meetings are open to the public, anyone can join.
Before a Board rule can be changed, the Proposed Rule Change must be presented at a Board meeting and posted for the public to review.
At a subsequent Board meeting, a vote can be held after giving everyone, including the public, a chance to make their comment.

What are the requirements for a Responsible Master Plumber license?
Master licensure typically requires a minimum of six years of plumbing experience including; documented work history and a series of comprehensive written and hands on exams based upon the design and installation of plumbing systems.
A Master Plumber must file a certificate of insurance with the Plumbing Board in order to obtain a Responsible Master Plumber license. Only an RMP can own or operate a bona fide plumbing company.

The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners provides a public database where you can search by license number or name. We recommend checking the TSBPE website for the most current and verified records.
What consumer rights do I have if a plumber fails to comply with code?
You have the right to a safe and compliant home. If a job is not completed to code, you can file a complaint with your local building department or the TSBPE. If you file a formal complaint with the Plumbing Board, they will investigate.
